On 30 April, a non-governmental organisation lodged a police report against Aliff on the basis that his actions constituted physical abuse

The police report was lodged by Protect and Save The Children (P.S. The Children), a member of the Child Rights Coalition Malaysia (CRCM), The Star reported.

"His caning of his daughter constitutes egregious physical abuse and is an offence under Section 31 of the Child Act, as well as under the Domestic Violence Act," Child Rights Coalition Malaysia (CRCM) said in a statement.

"Such conduct also violates his daughter's rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Malaysia acceded to in 1995, and the principles of which we are obligated to uphold," CRCM added.
