The organiser of the 2024 World Olympic Day event at The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 23 June, has apologised for the awkward launch of the national contingent's official attire for the Paris Olympics

According to the New Straits Times, event organiser MY Creative Moments has addressed its apology to the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), the Youth and Sports Ministry, and all the sports fans in the country over the misgivings that arose at the launching ceremony.

"We acknowledge our shortcomings and take responsibility for any flaws in the management and organisation of the event, as well as comments from fans and netizens that affect the overall image of OCM," wrote MY Creative Moments managing director Wong Kang Woon in a statement on Thursday, 27 June.

"We wish OCM and the Malaysian contingent the best of luck," he said.

Meanwhile, following the negative feedback, Malaysia's chef de mission to Paris Olympics Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin has proposed that the public be given the chance to design the attire next time

"I spoke to OCM president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria and he agreed that we will open to the fans to come up with the design next time.

"We will choose the best design and give the winner a prize," Hamidin was quoted as saying by The Star on Wednesday, 26 June.

He then went on to defend the design of the current attire, saying, "I read the comments from the netizens but I don't feel the design is that bad."

However, Hamidin admitted that it was a mistake using the mannequins.

"We should have asked our athletes to wear the attire. It would have looked better," he commented, adding that fans should now stop criticising the attire and move on to supporting the nation's athletes.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from 26 July to 11 August.
