TV host, actress, and entrepreneur Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor held her latest hijab launch 'Be Lofa' at Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur last night

The owner of headscarf brand Naelofar Hijab drew criticism from various corners for launching her latest collection of hijabs in a nightclub.

Neelofa also celebrated her 29th birthday at the event yesterday, 26 February.

The backlash started after photos and videos from the event began to surface on social media

Neelofa's sisters, Ameera and Nabila, were at the event to support the launch of Neelofa's latest product range.

However, most of the online buzz came from a video at the launch showing five girls dancing to Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You. At the time of writing, the original video and the reposted video have close to four million views in less than 16 hours.

Netizens were angry at Neelofa as they felt she neglected her religion by prioritising business and marketing

Even some of Neelofa's fans were disappointed as they felt the launch at Zouk does not represent Islam and put hijabis to shame

Not everyone criticised Neelofa as some pointed out that she held the event at Zouk's event space instead of Zouk's usual clubbing rooms

However, Neelofa has said that she is going to ignore public comments and criticism of her launch

Neelofa told Berita Harian, "I've made the decision to no longer care about people's criticism regarding any issue. Most importantly, I know what's being done."

She said several places were shortlisted, but Zouk was chosen because it was eight times cheaper than other locations.

The Naelofar Hijab owner also added, "It's never-ending if I continue to respond to netizens' comments. I have made the decision this year to no longer care about what people say."
