Malaysian actress and TV personality Neelofa has been fined for flouting COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOP)

According to Fareez Azman, an Astro Awani journalist, the matter was informed by the Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.

Neelofa was issued a RM20,000 compound for two offences

The first offence is failure to follow the Health Director-General's orders in regard to hosting social gatherings during Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and ensuring a physical distance of at least 1m among guests during her solemnisation ceremony.

The second offence is a violation of authorisation for interstate travel granted by an authorised officer under sub-regulation 4(2)(d) of Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

Meanwhile, the star's husband, known as PU Riz, was issued a fine of RM10,000 for the same offence after police found that they took part in unauthorised activities during the couple's business trip to Langkawi earlier in April.

20 of Neelofa's family members were also fined RM1,500 each

In total, the fines for all 22 individuals involved amount to RM60,000. Police have also said that they are not allowed to request a discount.

Neelofa's family members were compounded due to their failure to implement physical distancing measures during Neelofa's wedding that was held at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, 27 March.

The couple tied the knot in front of roughly 200 guests, some of whom were photographed sitting closely to each other without their masks on.

Many netizens noted that the fine is measly considering that the family is rather wealthy and cited a recent case where a man in Kelantan was fined RM50,000 for selling burgers outside of his home

In response to the situation, one person wrote, "But abang burger got RM50,000? Make it make sense."

Another user wrote, "Good news of the day. It took many weeks and an investigation paper after a public outcry to get to this. Normal citizens still getting on the spot fines and compounds."

"RM60K for Ms Loofah's entire family is peanuts for them. Compared to the guy who received summons of RM50K by himself," wrote another netizen.
