A mother in Bentong, Pahang, has spoken out on social media after her son was allegedly caned so severely by a teacher that he was left bruised and unable to sit down

Cherly Kam, the mother of a 14-year-old secondary school student, shared on Facebook that the incident occurred last Thursday, 15 May.

Her son, a Form 2 student, was purportedly punished for wearing the wrong attire to school — he had mistakenly worn his sports uniform instead of the regular school uniform.

According to Sin Chew Dailythe student was caned three times in front of the school. Kam claimed that dozens of other students, both male and female, were also punished that day.

Kam said she was devastated to discover her son's injuries, describing his bruised and swollen buttocks, and saying he was in so much pain he could neither sit nor lie down properly

"Do all the teachers at this school punish their students like this?!

"He wore the wrong uniform and was whipped to this extent! If you didn't know the reason, you'd think he had committed murder, arson, or rape!" she wrote on Facebook.

While acknowledging that light corporal punishment might be acceptable in some cases, Kam condemned this punishment as excessive and humiliating

"To make it worse, it was done in front of the entire school — all the teachers and students. Who could accept this?!" she asked.

Kam told SAYS that she has filed a police report over the incident.

Meanwhile, the school told Sin Chew Daily that it is awaiting the outcome of a police investigation and declined to comment.
