The hot and dry weather around the country is expected to cool down with the start of the monsoon transition period, beginning 29 March

In a statement on Monday, 25 March, Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said the country is expected to fully move past the hot weather by mid April.

"The monsoon transition phase is expected to begin on 29 March and continue until May this year," he said.

"The start of this phase marks the end of the Northeast Monsoon, which started in November last year," he added.

During this period, the country is expected to experience heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms

Muhammad Helmi said the thunderstorms will happen mostly in the afternoons and early evenings in the west and interior parts of the Peninsular, west Sabah, as well as the south and centre of Sarawak.

He also warned that the weather conditions have the potential to cause flash floods, topple trees, and damage unsecured structures.
