METMalaysia: Prepare For Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain & Strong Winds Next Week
The weather agency advised the public to stay cautious.
Prepare for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds in the afternoon next week, especially in Peninsular Malaysia
According to the New Straits Times, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has forecasted that the country is entering the monsoon transition phase, which will bring these weather conditions.
"Variable wind directions with weak intensity encourage the formation of thunderstorm clouds, which can lead to localised thunderstorms and brief rainfall," said METMalaysia director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip.
He added that this weather pattern has already been visible in recent afternoons
"Clear and hot weather in the morning increases convection activity, potentially forming larger cumulonimbus clouds by early afternoon.
"These larger clouds can produce heavy rain and strong winds, sometimes accompanied by hail, waterspouts, or landspouts," he explained.
Hisham advised the public to stay cautious, as heavy rain and strong winds pose a risk of lightning
He added that these conditions would increase the risk of fallen trees, damage to weak structures, and flash floods.
The public is urged to stay updated on the latest weather developments by following METMalaysia through its official website, myCuaca app, or social media channels.
