Man Who Mercilessly Assaulted A Woman Inside Taman Mutiara MRT Lift Pleads Not Guilty

He was charged today for robbing and causing harm to the 48-year-old woman.

G. Thinathayaalan, a 26-year-old maintenance worker, was today charged at a Sessions court in KL for robbing and causing harm to a 48-year-old a woman at the Taman Mutiara MRT station in Cheras

However, Thinathayaalan, who was seen in a video mercilessly assaulting the woman, calmly pleaded not guilty to the charge

Clad in a black T-shirt, the 26-year-old air-conditioner repairman pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 394 of the Penal Code before judge Mahyon Talib.

The act is punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment, fine, and whipping.

He allegedly committed the crime inside the lift at MRT Taman Mutiara in Cheras, at 6.45am on 14 February. A CCTV footage of his alleged crime had gone viral.

Deputy Public Prosecutor N. Joy Jothi deemed the incident "cruel"

"The incident at the MRT was caught on CCTV camera and the footage of the incident has gone viral. What happened was very cruel," she told the court today.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor did not offer bail to the accused.

Meanwhile, the Sessions court judge fixed 15 March for the next mention of the case.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old was charged for five other crimes

According to a viral tweet posted by Malaysian journalist Sumisha Naidu, the 26-year-old MRT assaulter was to be charged to these crimes:

Robbing a KK Mart
Breaking into a DBKL office
Stealing from a car
Breaking into a handphone shop, and
Robbing a home

NST Online reported that he claimed trial to committing armed robbery against a Bangladeshi national and fleeing with eight boxes of Dunhill cigarettes from a convenience store 15 minutes before the incident at the MRT station occurred.

The accused was charged with committing the offence at the KK Mart convenience store at Taman Taynton View, Cheras at 6.30am on the same day.
