When you think of common road hazards, a single pothole may not be considered deadly for some people, but it is more harmful than you think

After all, most of us perceive potholes as a little nuisance on the road and never think about it again after that.

Unfortunately in many cases, they can cause significant damage to your vehicle, or even worse, bring harm to people around.

Back in 2019, an unfortunate accident occurred, where a man lost his left leg after he fell into a large pothole filled with water

The victim, identified as Tengku Muhamad Khazi Hakimi Ku Hussin, 34, sustained the injury on 1 December 2019 at Kilometer 53 situated in Jalan Kota Bharu, Kuala Krai, Kelantan.

After almost three years, justice prevailed, as the pothole victim received RM652,000 in compensation for the accident.

Kota Bharu Sessions Court judge Mohd Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli issued the order after concluding the negligence of the government's road maintenance contractor

Tengku Muhammad Khazi's lawyers Wahab Che Kob and Nor Asniza Husin stated that the compensation was justified following a claim against Roadcare Malaysia Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian government, reported Malaysiakini.

They also claimed that Roadcare denied and refuted the existence of potholes on the road at the beginning of the trial.

"However, the court stated based on the evidence and the plaintiff’s testimony that the accident occurred due to the overflowing hole caused by the negligence of Roadcare," his lawyers reflected on the trial proceedings.
