It is believed that the incident took place in front of a bank in Kuala Kangsar, Perak on 28 October.

Some passersby who were coincidentally at the scene had recorded the incident using their mobile phone.

A resident, who wanted to be known as Rokiah, said the incident occurred about 8.30pm, Malay daily Harian Metro reported.

According to local reports, the man who was slapped was apparently collecting donations for new religious schools as well as the sale of wakaf (Islamic trust) land

The 50-seconds long video depicts a man who appears to be interrogated by an elderly man after he asked for donations.

The man seeking for donations claimed that he was a representative from a religious department and denied lying about his credentials.

However, the elderly man refused to believe his claims and continued scolding him, disputing the validity of the other man's 'story'.

The elderly man appeared to be rather angry and berated the other man before he slapped him

He accused the donation collector as a fraud who was out to fool the public by using the name of the local authority before he proceed to slap the man. It was reported that the victim had his teeth broken due to the slap.

Even after he was slapped, the other man stood there and did not appear to retaliate, explaining that others can contact the religious office for verification.

"Do not pretend. I know you're just putting a disguise. Remember me, I'm warning you," the elderly man was heard saying.

"I will tell the public that you're lying. Don't try to deceive others. If you want to do your job, do it properly."

Netizens have since condemned the elderly man for slapping the man, saying that he should not have resorted to violence
