Man Driving A 4WD Rammed Into A Crowd At A Hawkers' Centre In KL. Here's What Happened

On Friday evening, 22 May, there was an incident involving a man driving a 4-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD), which he crashed into a crowd at a hawkers' centre in Pekan Bukit Sentosa, Hulu Selangor District
In the incident that happened at about 6.35pm, the 32-year-old man — driving a Toyota Hilux — reportedly went berserk and rammed his pick-up truck into five people at the hawkers' centre.
Among those injured are four men and a woman, aged between 40 and 50.
Meanwhile, two cars, two motorcycles, and two canopies at the site were also damaged.
In the above video, the pick-up truck is seen being driven wildly at a parking lot in Bukit Sentosa.
What happened?
The man was stuck in congestion near Jalan Besar Bukit Sentosa and was honking when a pedestrian knocked into the side-view mirror of his pick-up truck. This angered the man.
He threatened to ram into everybody and proceeded to barrel into several people at the Persiaran Orkid hawkers' site, according to Hulu Selangor district police Chief Superintendent Arsad Kamaruddin.
The incident was captured on videos by witnesses
Among the videos that went viral, one of them shows a chaotic scene as the pick-up truck is seen racing towards a stall while the crowd around the area scream and scramble. One person gets hit.
This goes on for over a minute during which the pick-up truck is seen circling the area.
A Bernama reported said he was believed to have been drunk
In the report, Bernama quoted Noor Azam discussing the details of the case, but the Selangor police chief did not say anything about the suspect being drunk.
He, however, advised people not to make any negative assumptions about the incident.
The man has since been arrested
Said to be a tyre wholesaler, the man had no criminal records prior to Friday's incident.
Selangor police chief Noor Azam Jamaludin said that they are investigating the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 42 (11) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"An application to remand the suspect has been filed, and police urge any witness who was at the scene to come forward to help in the investigation," New Straits Times quoted Noor Azam as saying earlier.
The man since been remanded for seven days.
