Man Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself In The Chest During Hunting Trip In Pahang
The bullet pierced straight through his chest.
A hunting trip in the Tebu Hitam forest turned tragic when a 62-year-old man accidentally shot himself with a homemade firearm
The victim reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to his right pinky, with the bullet later piercing through his chest, causing his death, the New Straits Times quoted the police as saying.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, 4 May, was only reported a day later when a 54-year-old man lodged a police report at the Rompin district police headquarters.
A post-mortem was conducted at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan on Monday, 5 May, confirming the man's death was caused by a gunshot injury to the chest.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the case has been classified as sudden death. However, authorities also launched a probe into a hunting group's use of homemade weapons.
Six men, aged between 35 and 67, including one Orang Asli individual, were detained to assist in the investigation. All were believed to be part of the illegal hunting group.
Police also seized five homemade shotguns, a Benelli Armi shotgun (Italian-made), and 25 rounds of ammunition from the suspects.
The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960 for unlawful possession of firearms. If convicted, the offence carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
