A man believed to be under home quarantine was spotted going out and about while wearing his Ministry of Health-issued pink wristband

He was seen outside a mini-market along Jalan Ujong Pasir in Melaka over the weekend.

According to a report in New Straits Times, the information about the man breaching his home quarantine was relayed by a retiree named Sofea Abdullah on Saturday, 5 June.

He was also not wearing a face mask

"I was parked in front of the mini-market on Saturday afternoon when a motorcyclist zoomed in and stopped next to my car. I noticed he wasn't wearing a mask," Sofea was quoted as saying.

She also claimed that the man did not bother to scan the MySejahtera app or write down his details in the logbook for customers before dashing into the mini-market with his helmet on.

The retiree noticed that the man was wearing the pink wristband only when he got back onto his kapcai and proceeded to light a cigarette

"I was shocked. At a time like this when people around us are dying, we have irresponsible and selfish people like this youth, who is either a COVID-19 positive person or someone who was in close contact, moving freely about and possibly spreading the virus," she said, adding that it left her feeling horrified.

"There must be a better way to keep track of people like these and the authorities should come down hard on them. I dread to think where else this person went and how he might have possibly infected others."

Sofea has since informed the police about the case.
