Malaysian Passport Ranks As 12th Strongest Passport In The World
With a visa-free score of 182, Malaysians enjoy unrestricted access to 182 out of 227 global travel destinations.

The Malaysian passport has been ranked as the 12th strongest passport in the world this year by the Henley Passport Index
The Henly Passport Index, which ranks the strongest and weakest passports annually, placed Malaysia in 12th out of 199 passports. Also ranked 12th are Cyprus and Liechtenstein, with all three countries sharing the ranking.
With a visa-free score of 182, Malaysians enjoy unrestricted access to 182 out of 227 global travel destinations.
The scoring system is based on the number of destinations passport holders can enter without the need for a visa before arrival.
Notably, Malaysia's passport has demonstrated a steady climb in ranking, starting at 14th place at the beginning of 2023 with a score of 179.
Additionally, Singapore, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain continue to share the top spot, with each one having a score of 194.
The index ranks the passports based on data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA)
According to its website, the index cross-checks each passport against all 227 travel destinations worldwide, including the regions that do not issue their own passports.
For more context, the index gives a point to the passport for every travel destination that does not require a visa or only requires a visa on arrival, a visitor's permit, or an electronic travel authority (ETA) when entering the destination. These visa types do not require pre-departure government approval.
Whenever a visa before departure is required, no points are awarded.
