Malaysia's 'First Lady Of Songs' Dies At 61. RIP Kak Pah
One of Malaysia's greatest entertainers has passed away. RIP Datuk Sharifah Aini Syed Jaafar.

Veteran songstress Datuk Sharifah Aini Syed Jaafar passed away early Saturday. Sharifah was suffering from lung infection.
Malaysia’s legendary songstress, Datuk Sharifah Aini died after suffering from lung fibriosis at Damansara Specialist Hospital at 1.26am early Saturday. She was 61. She was admitted to the ICU of the specialist hospital after suffering from breathing complications.
thestar.com.mySharifah was diagnosed with lung fibrosis two years ago. She turned 61 on Wednesday this year.
According to Consulting Respiratory Physician Datuk Dr Zainudin Md Zain who was treating her, the condition (also known as interstitial lung disease) is rare and causes hardening or scarring of the lungs.
Born at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru, Sharifah was raised by her grandparents at Kampung Majidee. She was fondly known as Kak Pah.
Her sheer talent for singing was discovered after she won Bintang RTS, a singing contest in Singapore in 1968 where she sizzled judges with the beautiful rendition of 'Tiga Malam'.
A year later, Sharifah signed a singing contract with EMI. Her debut album titled, 'Seri Dewi Malam' received critical acclaim from music pundits in Malaysia and Singapore.

After she has carved a name as a singer, Sharifah also made a name as in various films including 'Hapuslah Airmatamu', 'Sumber Ilhamku' and 'Bintang Pujaan'.
Sharifah broke Malaysia's recording history by becoming the first artiste to have recorded 93 albums including seven English albums
She produced various hits over the years including Dekatlah Padaku, Bunga Tanjung and Mak Inang Melayu, a duet with the late Sudirman Haji Arshad and more.

She will be buried at Bukit Kiara Muslim burial ground before the Zuhur prayers. She is survived by her son Aliff Omar Ali Bakar.
