M'sia Introduces 5 New SOPs For Organising Concerts, Including Hydration Points & K9 Units
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said the new rules aim to prevent drug abuse among the youth.
The Youth and Sports Ministry has introduced five new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for organising concerts, especially electronic dance music (EDM) events, in a move to create safer, drug-free environments
According to Bernama, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced the initiative, which was developed in collaboration with the Home Ministry and the Health Ministry.
She said the new rules aim to prevent drug abuse among the youth and to ensure concertgoers' safety.
Here are the five SOPs that concert organisers must now implement:
– Hydration points provided to prevent dehydration
– A medical team on standby for emergencies
– Anti-drug messages displayed on trailers, posters, or videos, along with information on what to do in an emergency
– Nearby hospitals notified and ready to handle potential incidents
– K9 units deployed at venues to boost security and control
Yeoh said these are the new conditions set for concerts held at ministry-owned venues, such as Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia facilities and the Sepang International Circuit
Speaking at the Drug-Free Youth campaign at Bukit Jalil Stadium on Sunday, 20 April, Yeoh added that these facilities will now share their monthly concert schedules with the Royal Malaysia Police and the National Anti-Drug Agency, to ensure the SOPs are effectively implemented.
She also urged organisers of events at non-ministry venues to adopt these guidelines to ensure the safety and wellbeing of concert attendees.
Authorities are proposing stricter guidelines following the deaths of four individuals who attended a concert in Selangor last year:
