The visa-free travel arrangement between Malaysia and China has been extended for another five years, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced

According to The Star, Saifuddin said the initiative, which currently allows Chinese tourists to stay in Malaysia for up to 90 days without a visa, will continue with China offering a reciprocal visa exemption for Malaysians.

"We will continue this for five more years with the option to extend it for another five years after this period ends," he said.

This mutual visa-free policy is one of 31 agreements signed during Chinese President Xi Jinping's recent state visit to Malaysia.

Saifuddin also shared that nearly one million Chinese tourists have visited Malaysia so far this year, reflecting the policy's success.

Prior to the announcement, Malaysians were only allowed to travel to China visa-free until 31 December, while Chinese nationals can enter Malaysia without a visa until 31 December next year

The visa-free travel policy was first introduced in 2023 as a trial, during which Malaysia extended the allowed stay for Chinese tourists from 30 to 90 days, while China increased the stay for Malaysian tourists from 15 to 30 days.

Chongqing is a popular travel destination in China.
