MACC: No Element Of Corruption In Construction Of RM50,000 Wooden Jetty

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has found no element of corruption in the construction of the RM50,000 wooden jetty in Miri, Sarawak that recently went viral
According to Bernama, the anti-graft agency had looked into the matter after the high cost of the simple structure on the river made by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) had raised eyebrows among the public.
"The results of the investigation did not find any corruption or irregularities in the project," a MACC source said after the inspections on Tuesday, 12 April.

MACC senior director of investigations Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hashim has also confirmed that an inspection was made on the JKR Sarawak project, but declined to comment further.
MACC's findings are similar to what JKR Sarawak had previously claimed, citing the high cost of belian timber contributing to the jetty's hefty cost. They also contended that the waters were infested with crocodiles.
"In establishing the cost of RM50,000, various factors had been carefully taken into account, inter alia, the condition of road access to Kampung Mutap, logistics, as well as safety measures, considering that the area is infested with crocodiles," it explained in a statement after the issue blew up on social media.
