We don't deserve dogs, and sometimes, the proof comes in the most unexpected ways. Like in a quiet living room, captured by a home security camera.

Last Wednesday, 7 May, something incredible unfolded at Sarah McArdle Strilka's home.

Her French bulldog, Yogi, suffers from severe epilepsy. While she was away at work, Yogi started seizing — but with no humans around to help, it was his 16-month-old brother, Reggie the boxer, who stepped in.

Despite being home alone, Reggie knew exactly what to do to keep Yogi alive

According to Sarah, Yogi began having seizures around 12.15pm, just 15 minutes after she left for work.

"Within the first hour, he had at least 10 grand mals," she shared in a now-viral Facebook post. These are violent, full-body seizures, and can be fatal if the dog aspirates.

But Reggie wasn't about to let that happen.

Despite having only witnessed one seizure before, Reggie's instincts somehow kicked in

The boxer nudged, pawed, and rolled Yogi into safer positions each time his body tensed up. He never left Yogi's side. For over three hours, he stayed on alert, watching over his big brother.

In the video footage shared by Sarah, Reggie and Yogi are seen interacting in what looks like normal roughhousing. But soon, it becomes painfully clear that Reggie isn't playing — he's carefully managing his brother's seizure.

He uses his paws to gently turn Yogi onto his side, stopping him from choking. He stays nearby, moving only to reposition or nudge him back to safety.

By the time Sarah returned home at 6.15pm, the bond between her dogs had already written a story that moved thousands of hearts online

"It's a truly heartwarming moment that showcases the power of companionship and instinct," Sarah wrote.

Dogs with epilepsy, like Yogi, are at serious risk when seizing alone. Without help, they can stop breathing or inhale fluids — both of which can be fatal.

"If it wasn't for Reggie, Yogi would not be alive today," she said in an interview with Storyful.

And of course, Reggie's loyalty didn't go unnoticed. "Reggie is getting a steak today," Sarah posted.

"Hands down, the best decision ever made," she added, referring to getting a second dog.
