KL Mother Disowns Her Gambler Son After Facing 14 Years Of Harassment By Loan Sharks
"The loan shark said if I do not pay him back, he would throw paint on my house."

A woman residing in KL has decided to disown her son after dealing with his debts and harassment from loan sharks for 14 years
According to The Star, the woman, who only wants to be known as Ng, spoke to reporters at a press conference at the office of MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong at Wisma MCA on 15 August.
Ng said her son, Chiow Chee Son, who is a 36-year-old, started borrowing from loan sharks since 2004 as he was addicted to gambling.
The mother said she filed a "lawyer letter" with the intention to disown and officially cut ties with her son on 8 August
The letter was signed and acknowledged by her son, with his aunt acting as a witness.
Ng also pleaded for loan sharks to stop bothering her during the press conference. "I got nothing to do with Chiow anymore," she said.
In Malaysia, there are no legal procedures for the separation of a parent and child, explained Lawyer James Ee Kah Fuk based on his observation and experience. However, the letter can be used as a notice for the loan sharks as well as her son.
A police report was also lodged by Ng on 14 August for safety reasons
Loan sharks are known for vandalizing a property if they do not get their money. A loan shark threatened to throw paint on Ng's house if she did not pay her son's loans back.
Ng has paid more than RM60,000 to cover her son's loans and settle his debts, only to be asked for more month after month
In July alone, Ng has paid more than RM16,000 to cover four loans. She was then asked to pay back around an additional RM10,000 as her son borrowed more money again.
Previously, more than RM50,000 was paid back by Ng to settle debts from other loan sharks.
