Kelantan's Crime Rate Shot Up Over The Past Year. Here's What The Numbers Say
Most of the cases involved violent and property-related offences.
The crime rate in Kelantan has seen a sharp rise in 2024, according to authorities
During the 2025 Kelantan Police Chief Town Hall Discussion at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan recently, state police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat revealed that the number of reported cases rose to 2,296 last year, up from 1,994 cases in 2023, marking a jump of 302 incidents.
Here is the breakdown of the reported crime figures
Violent crime rose by 8.5%, increasing from 390 cases to 423 cases. Property crime saw a sharper jump, climbing 16.7% from 1,604 to 1,872 cases during the same period.
Within violent crime statistics, armed robbery without firearms surged by 25.6%, rising from 43 to 54 cases, while assault cases climbed by 6.8%, from 147 to 157 incidents.
Conversely, several violent crimes recorded significant declines. Murder cases plummeted by 55.6%, dropping from nine to four. Armed robbery involving firearms also saw a sharp decrease of 60%, falling from five cases to just two.
In the property crime category, general theft remained high, surging by 50.9%, from 485 cases to 732 in 2024. House break-ins also increased by 41.7%, accounting for 628 cases, and car thefts rose by 23.3%, from nine to 12 incidents. However, motorcycle thefts declined significantly by 46.9%, falling from 128 cases in 2023 to 68 last year.
