Japanese Woman Stabbed To Death During A Livestream In Tokyo
The suspect is said to be a man in his 40s.
A Japanese livestreamer was stabbed to death near a train station in Tokyo yesterday, 11 March
According to the Japan Times, the victim, in her 20s, was believed to have been stabbed by a man in his 40s while she was livestreaming near the Takadanobaba Station in the capital's Shinjuku Ward.
The woman sustained multiple stab wounds to her neck, head, and chest. She was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly upon arrival.
Local police have upgraded the charge against the man from attempted murder to murder following the woman's death.
The suspect told police officers that he had no intention of killing the victim, confessing that he had been having "issues with a woman"
Some news sites described the suspect as an anti-fan and reported that the woman was livestreaming on the platform Whowatch during the incident.
According to an X post, the woman's livestream had about 6,500 viewers watching and garnered over 1,800 comments from concerned netizens.
"The person in a hat was the culprit," one user said, while another added, "Don't take down this [post]. Use it as evidence."
A separate X post claimed that the suspect picked up the victim's phone and showed his face on the livestream after the attack.
A taxi driver who witnessed the horrific stabbing told the Japan Times that he saw the suspect "filming the woman" and "kicking her head" as she lay on the ground
"He was silent and calm as he did it. It was utterly freakish," said the 52-year-old witness.
Local police recovered a 13cm knife, believed to be the murder weapon, along with another knife at the scene. It remains unclear whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
