The discovery of three marbles at the one of the damaged premises led police to believe that the culprits might have used air rifles loaded with marbles.

"We did not find any bullet shells at the scene and information gathered from witnesses also showed they did not hear any gunshots and only realised the incident when they saw the shattered windows," he said.

However, Sabahans Think The Crime Was 'Too Organised' For It To Be Carried Out By Mischievous Teens And Suspect That The Perpetrators May Have Ulterior Motives

Many were sceptical as they felt that the acts were not a case of a fun night out, but appeared more like a planned attack with ulterior motives that could include sabotaging Sabah's booming tourism industry to lingering security threats linked to the Sulu intrusion in Lahad Datu.

Even though police seemed sure that the smashing of glass doors and panes of over 30 businesses in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang were the acts of "naughty boys", many people felt that the incident was too organised to be carried out by teenagers.

Some Say That The CCTV Footages Of The Shooting Spree Should Be Made Public

Penampang member of parliament Darell Leiking said CCTV camera footages of the perpetrators should be released to the public.
"The public may have information on the suspects and the vehicles. Besides helping the police to identify those involved, the public can also keep a safe distance from these people if they recognise who they are."
