Could This Be The Perodua Sedan That We've Been Waiting For?
This is is probably the first clear shot of Perodua’s upcoming sedan.
A photo of a car believed to be the long-rumoured Perodua sedan has been circulating on social media since yesterday, 13 June
Perodua’s yet to be named sedan is expected to be launched sometime between late-2016 and early-2017, and is likely to go head-to-head with the Proton Saga, itself also due to be replaced soon.
Perodua has yet to make any official announcements regarding the all-new sedan’s specifications but has in the past hinted that it will be powered by an all-new aluminium NR-series engine, available in 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre guise.
Just a few weeks ago, Perodua president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid disclosed some exclusive information about the upcoming sedan
For one, it was said that the sedan will be codenamed D63D.
According to reports, Aminar did not give a definite answer on when the car will make its debut but he confirmed that Perodua is targeting a five-star NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) safety rating with the sedan.
Malaysian automotive site Paultan.org, reported that the sedan has been approved and is now in the prototype stage. It was also mentioned that Perodua has begun evaluating the car's engine, platform and transmission.
Paultan.org also revealed that mentions of "Perodua Sedan" have appeared in recent stock research reports
Maybank Investment Bank’s research report on major Perodua stakeholder MBM Resources Bhd (MBMR) predicts a “tale of two halves” for the stock, where the second half of 2016 will be boosted by the launch of Perodua’s first sedan.
The same research house also mentioned the Perodua sedan in a note on leather upholstery supplier Pecca Group Bhd, which appeared in The Edge Financial Daily. The key catalyst for Pecca’s financial year 2017 growth would be the contribution from the Perodua sedan, Maybank Investment Bank said.
The talk of Perodua launching its very own sedan coincides with national car company Proton's plans to release a string of new models, including the launch of the long-awaited 2016 Proton Perdana today
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak officiated the launch of Proton's fourth-generation Perdana at Putrajaya this morning.
"The launch of the new Proton Perdana is expected to be a turning point for Proton," Najib was quoted as saying by Bernama.
The national carmaker sold just slightly over 100,000 units in 2015.
Proton has collected 900 orders for the Perdana ever since the sedan's order books opened in February. They are expecting to sell about 3,000 units by the end of this year.
