Good News, Malaysians! You'll Be Able To Buy IKEA Furniture Online Next Year

Next year onwards, you'd be able to shop for IKEA goods in the comforts of your own home.

Yup, the Swedish furniture giant announced yesterday that it is planning to open an online store in Malaysia!

IKEA Southeast Asia Managing Director, Christian Rojkjaer was quoted as saying that the e-commerce website would make it easier for customers to access and purchase the company's range of products.

"We are planning to launch the e-commerce service in Singapore in the next two weeks, and introduce it in Malaysia next year," he said.

The announcement was made by Rojkjaear at the groundbreaking ceremony for IKEA Penang store, which is slated to open in 2019

IKEA Penang would be the fourth IKEA store in Malaysia, following Damansara and Cheras in Selangor, and Tebrau in Johor Bahru.

A total of RM600 million has been invested to set up the store.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the new store will attract more spenders and create job opportunities and spin-off business for suppliers.

"IKEA Damansara receives about six million visitors annually. We really hope that IKEA Penang would be able to attract as many visitors once it opens. The store will create about 450 jobs and various spin-off business opportunities for suppliers," Rojkjaer said as quoted by Bernama.

Rojkjaer told The Malaysian Insight that IKEA currently has no plans to open more outlets after Penang.
