Residents in Klang Valley encountered unscheduled water cuts and low pressure due to the closure of four water treatment plants as a result of raw water contamination.

Areas affected: Gombak, Klang-Shah Alam, Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.

According to an earlier Bernama report, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), had temporarily closed operations at the three water treatment plants since 8pm yesterday after hydraulic fluid was found in Sungai Selangor.

However, at some high-lying areas and those located at the end of the supply chain, such as Pulau Indah and Banting, recovery will come in stages," Azmin Ali said.

SYABAS corporate communications and public affairs general manager Priscilla Alfred Dharan said in a statement, "The recovery process cannot be accelerated as there is no alternative source and not much water reserve held in storage. To ease consumer difficulties, tankers have been mobilised to distribute emergency water supply. Priority will be given to critical users such as hospitals and dialysis centres. Consumers are urged to make the best possible use of the emergency water supply."
