AirAsia Indonesia operates in Indonesia under the company PT Indonesia AirAsia. It was established via a joint venture between AirAsia International Ltd and PR Awair International.
Initially established on 8 December 2004, the airline has been operating for more than 10 years
AirAsia Indonesia is 49% owned by Malaysia-listed AirAsia Sdn Bhd and 51% by Indonesian shareholders as stipulated by an Indonesian law requiring citizens to own at least 50% of any local airline
Although it operates under the AirAsia brand name, it is a separate entity from the AirAsia that we know in Malaysia
As such, AirAsia Indonesia is fully responsible for its operations except for some areas that are managed by AirAsia such as procurement of planes
AirAsia Indonesia is headed by president director Sunu Widyatmoko. He served as the airline's Chief Financial Officer before his appointment.
Sunu joined AirAsia Indonesia in 2013 as Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining AirAsia Indonesia, Sunu has held various prominent positions in the financial industry. He served as Director of Investment Banking at PT Bahana Securities where his primary roles were to take companies public on the Indonesian Stock Exchange, assisting companies with merger & acquisition, as well as corporate restructuring. Previously, Sunu was with PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk and Ernst & Young Advisory Services.

In 2013, AirAsia Indonesia carried a total of 7.85 million customers. It also launched 13 new routes, nine of which are international.
