"Good Job, Kak" - Mall Cleaner Praised For Returning A Wallet With More Than RM12K Cash

On 9 October, a woman who's a cleaner at the Berjaya Times Square shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, stumbled upon a wallet, which she found while she was on duty.

The woman, Samona Marhama, a 34-year-old Indonesian, found the wallet containing more than RM12,000 in a diaper changing room at the third floor of the shopping mall.

It was learned that Samona actually did not know the amount of money in the wallet because she did not open it. Instead, she immediately handed it over to her supervisor. The management of the mall then surrendered it over to the police.

Samona told reporters that she did not want to open the wallet because it does not belong to her and that she doesn't have the right to see what is in it.

"I found the wallet and suspected that someone may have left it behind. Without thinking for long, I handed it over to the management," she was quoted as saying by Bernama.

She reportedly said that she was compelled to turn in the wallet out of a sense of responsibility, adding that these values should be instilled in everyone.

Harian Metro reported yesterday, 22 October, that Dang Wangi district police chief Mohd Sukri Kaman presented a certificate of appreciation to Samona and the mall management in a simple ceremony at the shopping centre recently. 

Meanwhile, the authorities are still looking for the individual who has misplaced a wallet to come forward to retrieve it at the Tun HS Lee police station.

"Police did not find any identification documents in the wallet. Apart from the money, only a few photographs believed to be of the owner were in the wallet," Mohd Sukri was quoted as saying.
