Honda Malaysia Confirms Takata Airbag Rupture In Fatal Crash
As many as 16 motorists have died in America, Malaysia, and India.

Honda Malaysia said a driver died after a Takata airbag ruptured during a crash last week, lifting the number of fatalities tied to the devices to at least 16 worldwide
Honda has confirmed that the Takata single stage (SDI) driver’s airbag inflator ruptured in a crash on 24 September in Malaysia. The crash that happened in Johor resulted in the tragic death of the driver.

Working together with the police, the Japanese automobile manufacturer has also confirmed that the vehicle involved in the crash was included in a massive airbag recall announced in July, requiring replacement of the driver’s front airbag inflator
A notification letter was sent out to the owner related to the recall. However, Honda Malaysia's records indicate that the recall repair was never completed.
At the moment, the company is communicating with the authorities and representative of the driver’s family for more information
To assure the public and its customers, Honda Malaysia said that the current selling line-up of Honda models does not have the same type of Takata airbag inflators as previous models affected by the recalls.
The death was the fourth in Malaysia this year involving Takata airbags built with inflators prone to spraying sharp metal and plastic objects at drivers
In June, a woman died when a shrapnel from the airbag pierced her in the chest. The tragic incident happened when the Honda City that she was driving crashed into a Mercedes-Benz.
Honda Malaysia continues to urge owners of Honda vehicles affected by the Takata front airbag inflator product recall to get their vehicles repaired at as soon as possible
