Malaysians traveling home for Hari Raya Aidilfitri will enjoy a 50% discount on toll charges this Friday and Saturday, 28 and 29 March, announced Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi

The discount will begin at 12.01am this Friday, 28 March, until 11.59pm the following day, 29 March.

"The discount will cost the government about RM19.69 million in compensation to the toll concessionaires," he said in a statement yesterday, 26 March.

"It will only apply to Class 1 private vehicles and will not apply to toll plazas at the country's borders, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building toll on the North-South Expressway and the Tanjung Kupang toll on the Second Link Malaysia-Singapore Expressway.

"This toll discount is a continuation of the assistance provided by the government during major festive seasons since 2023," he added.

The minister urged highway users to plan their journeys wisely to avoid traffic congestion during the holiday

To ease travel during the long weekend, motorists are advised to:
- Follow travel time advisories issued by highway concessionaires
- Ensure their vehicles are in good condition
- Maintain sufficient balance in Touch 'n Go eWallets and cards
- Check and charge SmartTAG batteries
- Use the Malaysian Highway Authority's live CCTV to monitor traffic conditions

He also urged motorists to drive responsibly, follow traffic regulations, and take breaks when needed to ensure a safe journey.
