A 13-Year-Old Student In Sarawak Was Poisoned By His Own Classmate

A Form 1 student was arrested today, 21 July, for poisoning his classmate with cockroach poison in Sri Aman, Sarawak
New Straits Times (NST) reported that the authorities believe that the culprit had poisoned the victim by lacing his food with cockroach poison.
"Initial investigations showed the suspect had brought a container of fried noodle and a box of roach poison to the school.
"He then offered the food to the victim who then ate it. A few minutes later, the victim started vomiting," read the report by NST.
The incident happened on Thursday, 20 July, at a secondary school in Sri Aman.
A school teacher was alerted of the incident before the 13-year-old victim was rushed to the Sri Aman Hospital for treatment
The victim who is from Pantu, a small district in Sri Aman, Sarawak, is still receiving treatment at the hospital, according to a report by The Star.
Sarawak Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar explained that the 13-year-old suspect had panicked after his classmate started vomiting, and had passed the poison to one of his classmates, who informed their teacher about the incident.
The suspect has been arrested by the authorities to assist in the investigations, after a police report was lodged by the victim's 49-year-old father at the Sri Aman police station
Dev also said that they've seized a box of roach poison for further investigations after they arrested the boy at his house at 2.30am today, 21 July.
NST reported that the authorities believe that the incident could have been a prank gone wrong.
"The motive of the incident is still being investigated by the police," said Dev, as reported by NST.
It was reported that the suspect will be released on bail as the boy is a minor.
The case is being investigated under Section 328 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by means of poison.
