Those who settle their compounds for violating COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) within seven days will get a 50% discount, according to de facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan

This was announced today, 17 March, following a Cabinet meeting, during which the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration decided to amend the fine for violations of rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Cabinet has also decided to lower the fines imposed for different offences.

It comes after the Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021 was imposed on 11 March, which carried a blanket RM10,000 fine for people and RM50,000 for companies.

RM1,500 for standard offences

Takiyuddin announced that RM1,500 will be imposed against first-time offenders and individuals who do not wear masks, and those who fail to register or use the MySejahtera app to check-in.

Those who do not adhere to physical distancing will also face the same fine.

However, patrons of nightclubs would continue to face the maximum RM10,000 fine.

Under the discount offer, a person fined RM1,500 can get away with paying RM750 if they pay the fine within seven days

If they pay within two weeks that is between the eighth day and 14th day, they are eligible for a 25% discount.

No discount will be given after the two weeks period.

The Minister also announced that for all those who were issued the RM10,000 compound since 11 March, they too will only pay RM1,500

This comes after Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that since the implementation of the RM10,000 fine on 11 March, no one has come forward to make the payment.

Hundreds have been slapped with the RM10,000 fine since 11 March:
