Explosion at Petronas' Rapid Site In Johor Injures Two Workers

A massive explosion occurred at one of Petronas' Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) sites in Johor on Friday morning, 12 April
The blast, which occurred at 1.25am at at the Pengerang Integrated Complex, was followed by a huge blaze, New Straits Times reported.
The explosion could be felt in Pasir Gudang, which is about 80km away.
Two Malaysian workers were reportedly injured in the incident
"The two victims, who worked as security guards, received outpatient treatment at the Pengerang RAPID Medical Emergency Centre," said Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Ahsmon Bajah, Bernama reported.
Videos of the incident circulating on social media show a large fire and thick smoke rising up to the sky from the oil and gas facility.
Petronas said that its Emergency and Fire Response Team, which was immediately deployed to the scene, managed to contain the fire within 30 minutes
"The situation is under control and all the relevant authorities have been informed (of the incident). We will provide additional information in due course, as the investigation is still being carried out," a statement by the oil and gas company read.
Investigations into the cause of the blast are being conducted by the Safety Department of the Petronas Rapid complex, the state government's Safety, Security and Environment Committee, and the Johor chapter of the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
Checks at the complex at 6.30am today found no trace of the fire and confirmed that the plant was operating as usual
Buses were seen routinely ferrying workers to the site and lorries were heading in and out of the complex, according to Bernama.
