Celebrity preacher and philanthropist Ebit Lew took to Facebook to announce the end of his current humanitarian mission in Semporna, Sabah

Today, 2 February, along with a photo of himself in a boat with his head down, Ebit Lew wrote, "I can no longer continue my humanitarian mission. I am halting my intentions to build a school. This morning I have been informed that I am not allowed to go to the Semporna islands. I've been asked to stop distributing aid around here. I was told that I could be fined RM100,000 or be imprisoned for three years."

The post has since garnered over 8,500 comments and 13,000 shares.

This came after the preacher allegedly led mass conversion ceremonies involving 490 people from four different villages in Semporna.

Today, Ebit Lew wrote, "I apologise to the people of Semporna islands that I converted."

According to Malay Mail, Islamic authorities in Sabah have addressed the matter and lauded him for his efforts.

When asked about the procedure required for such mass conversions to happen, Sabah Mufti Datuk Bungsu Aziz Jaafar said that said their conversion stands as long as they recited the shahadah with belief.

On Monday, 1 February, Ebit Lew explained that the main motive behind his humanitarian mission is to deliver aid to rural areas in Semporna. According to him, he heard that people in the area, particularly the stateless people of Bajau Laut, needed food supply.

He also planned to build schools in the villages. In a post, he wrote, "Thankfully, we just finished bringing wood and started to build a school. We plan to build three schools. We've got six teachers to teach the foundations of 3M and the basics of Islam. Morals and love. Just now we've placed the wood. In a month, everything will be completed. I will be paying the teachers' salaries. And will help them continuously. The teachers will live there."

Ebit Lew says that he will now head to Tawau and wait for a flight there

During his visit, he was assisted by officials from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), PDRM special forces unit VAT 69 Commando, as well as Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).

SAYS has reached out to Ebit Lew for further clarification on the party that allegedly stopped him from going to the islands.

However, Malay Mail reported that according to Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali, the police, as well as the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESScom), has not stopped him in any way or form from continuing his mission.
