Dr Mahathir was supposed to be sworn in this morning at 9:30am, however, the swearing-in ceremony was cancelled at the last minute without any reason.

"We expected to sign (the declaration) this morning. But everyone was sleeping and didn't get up early enough. So we didn't have the official swearing in this morning," said Dr Mahathir at a press conference today.

"We need to form the government now today, because currently there is no government of Malaysia," he said.

"There is a lot of work that needs to be done," he said during the press conference.

He added that the Constitution of Malaysia states that as long as there is support from the majority of members in Parliament, he is entitled to become prime minister, reported The Star.

Dr Mahathir added that Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's tenure as Prime Minister is "over"

He said that all of the parties in Pakatan Harapan and Warisan have signed a declaration that supports Dr Mahathir to be the next prime minister.

"..the leaders of the four parties of the coalition have written letters to the King, asking the swear in of the seventh PM to be sworn in now," he added.

It has already been signed by the parties in Pakatan Harapan and the parties in Sabah.

"We will deliver this even though it is not the requirement for the naming of Prime Minister," he added.

Even Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar believes that Dr Mahathir should be sworn in immediately

"We must accept the voice of the people to form the government. Without wasting anymore time, I am also looking forward to the new government for the best of my subjects."

"Therefore, the government must be appointed now without wasting anymore time… and even the Prime Minister now. I congratulate all parties that have achieved their aim," he said.
