An anonymously uploaded video shows a group of men in Sibu, Sarawak, confronting an 11-year-old boy for driving a car. In the video, one of the men can be seen assaulting and slapping the boy.

The video, originally uploaded on a public Sibu community Facebook group, has since been deleted. However, it was later reuploaded to other social media platforms, including X, formerly Twitter.

The boy's harrowing screams can be heard as one of the men pounces on him and hits him with a piece of cloth. The others in the group do nothing to stop the man, who continues to yell at the boy.

After the boy manages to run back into the car, the group goes after him.

"He's going into the car again," one of the men shouts in Mandarin.

They prevent him from closing the driver's side as the boy continues to wail.

The minute-long video then cuts to the boy in the driver's seat as one of the men slaps and yells at him, saying, "Don't simply scream! Do you want more? How many times must I say this? Why do you still want to play? Can you sit in the passenger seat and let your father drive?"

To which, the boy replies, "No!", leading the man to slap him one more time.

It turns out that this wasn't the first time the boy was caught behind the wheel. Earlier on Wednesday, 5 June, the father of the 11-year-old was issued a summons by the Sibu traffic police department.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the summons was issued under Section 26 (1) B of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers offences of individuals driving a car without a valid licence.

"On 5 June 5, around 3pm, we detected a video uploaded to Facebook by a member of the public showing a car being driven by an underage boy at Jalan Kampung Nyabor.

"On the same day at about 6.50pm, we located him together with his parents. They were taken to the Sibu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division for investigation and further action," he said in a statement.

However, investigations revealed that the boy is autistic and has a medical record at the Sibu Hospital's Psychiatry Specialist Clinic

Meanwhile, netizens have criticised the group of men for hitting the boy, calling it inappropriate.

"Why didn't they take him to the police station? Hitting him like this is abuse and he's underage. What if you hit him too hard and something happens?" asked one Facebook user.

"Although the kid has committed a serious wrongdoing, hitting him is not the right solution," wrote another.

When contacted by SAYS today, 7 June, Zulkipli said the police will look into the incident.
