Terrified morgue workers had the shock of their lives after a man who was pronounced dead in hospital woke up the next day
24-year-old Paul Mutora, who had tried to kill himself by swallowing insecticide following an argument with his father, was pronounced dead on Wednesday night.
On Thursday afternoon two mortuary attendants heard noises coming from a side room and when they found the man breathing, they 'took to their heals screaming,' a witness told Kenya's Star newspaper.

According to the paper, Mr Mutora's father and other relatives visited the morgue on Thursday morning to view the body and then returned home to start funeral arrangements.

"But in the afternoon we were informed, he was alive and were left in shock," the father said.

Dr. Joseph Mburu, superintendant in charge of the hospital, said an investigation has been opened into how Mutora was incorrectly declared dead.
Mburu said Mutora's death-like condition may have been due the drug used by the hospital to treat poisoning victims.
"The drug makes the heart to beat slower and this might have confused medical personnel, but the victim was saved before he could be embalmed," he said.
Mutora is now recovering from his ordeal in a ward after being transported back by staff
According to All Africa, Mr Mutora said: "This was a mistake from the start.
"I apologise to my father as I prepare to go and take care of my wife and child."
