Cool Weather And Low Temperatures Are Expected To Stay Until Next Week, Says UM Expert
Cold winds will bring a drop in temperature of between 2°C and 3°C.

Bring out your sweaters, because the current cool weather and lower temperatures in Malaysia are expected to last until next week
Universiti Malaya meteorology expert Prof Datuk Dr Azizan Abu Samah told The Star that cold winds will bring a drop in temperature of between 2°C and 3°C in the country as they are coming from Siberia, which is now experiencing below freezing temperatures of around -25°C.
He said the cold surges Malaysia is seeing are the result of the northeast monsoon, which is expected to end in March.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department's (METMalaysia) weather forecast for the upcoming week for Kuala Lumpur shows temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C.
"We can expect cool and wet weather conditions until the current surge ends sometime next week," said Azizan
"This will then result in clearer skies but thunderstorms can still occur."
He added that the occurrence of cold surges will also tend to increase the wind speed over the South China Sea and can produce waves between 2m and 3m high, which may be dangerous to small fishing boats.
Meanwhile, METMalaysia has also warned that there is a high potential of thunderstorms with these weather conditions
METMalaysia director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said thunderstorms may occur across states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Johor until mid-February.
"There is also a high possibility of thunderstorms in West Coast states such as Selangor, Perak, and Melaka, with heavy rains and strong winds," he said.
He added that the East Coast states are also forecasted to face humid weather conditions.
The department advised the public to stay safe during the strong winds and lightning associated with thunderstorms by staying indoors, avoiding the use of corded telephones, avoiding standing close to high tension towers, tall buildings, and trees, and avoiding contact with water during a thunderstorm.
