From China To Singapore, Johor & Kedah: Kidnappers Track And Torture Wealthy Family's Son
The victim was allegedly freed by one of the suspects four days after his abduction.
A wealthy Chinese family's son was kidnapped in Johor on 30 April after crossing into Malaysia from Singapore. He was released four days later.
According to China Press, the victim, an 18-year-old university student in Singapore, is the son of a wealthy Chinese couple based in Dubai, the UAE.
On 30 April, he left the island nation and visited Iskandar Puteri, Johor, where he was abducted by a group of Chinese nationals believed to have entered Malaysia via Singapore.
It is alleged that the mastermind behind the kidnapping conducted a background check before the victim was abducted.
The victim's mother, Cheng (transliteration), 40, stated that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of 500,000 yuan (approximately RM290,000).
However, the amount was later increased to 3 million yuan (around RM1.7 million). Cheng claimed the kidnappers threatened to kill and dismember her son if the demand was not met.
One of the suspects claimed he was deceived by an individual posing as a Chinese police officer, who instructed him to film the victim being abused under the pretence of creating an anti-fraud awareness video
The suspect allegedly recorded scenes of abuse in a hotel room on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Kuala Lumpur and at an oil palm plantation in Kulim, Kedah.
A video published on China Press showed the victim tied to a chair and pushed to the ground, with a voice saying, "Your son is now in my hands."
Police later arrested the suspect at the departure hall of Penang International Airport. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details, citing an ongoing investigation.

A taxi was booked to facilitate his release.
At 1pm the following day, the victim walked to a police station in Hulu Langat, Selangor, where he borrowed a phone from an officer to contact his family. He then left the station on his own.
Later, police located him at a nearby petrol station and brought him back for questioning.
Kuala Lumpur's Criminal Investigation Department Serious Crimes Division (D9) subsequently brought the victim to several locations in Penang to reconstruct the kidnapping sequence.
Authorities are expected to make further arrests as investigations continue.
