Image via New Straits TimesIf convicted, the lorry driver, who has prior criminal records, faces a minimum of five years and up to 10 years' imprisonment for each charge, as well as a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 per count
He also risks being barred from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least five years.
Deputy public prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan proposed bail of RM10,000 for each charge with a surety, along with additional conditions, including the suspension of Rudi's driving licence pending trial, and a requirement for him to report weekly to the nearest police station, reported Berita Harian.
Rudi's lawyer, Francis Sinnappan from the National Legal Aid Foundation, requested a reduced bail, citing his client's monthly income of RM2,000, his asthma condition, and the fact that he lives alone.
The court ultimately granted bail at RM6,000 for all charges combined, and agreed to the prosecution's request for the additional conditions. The case will be mentioned again on 17 June.
