Authorities confirmed that at least 43 construction workers were trapped under the rubble, and emergency teams rushed to rescue them

According to The Nation, the Thai government quickly declared a state of emergency in the capital.

Meanwhile, Myanmar, where the earthquake's epicentre was located near Mandalay, also experienced widespread destruction.

Several buildings collapsed, including historical landmarks like the former royal palace. The 90-year-old Ava Bridge was severely damaged, with parts of it falling into the Irrawaddy River.

Major roads connecting Mandalay and Yangon were also affected, making rescue efforts more challenging, Reuters reported.

Videos from Bangkok also captured the moment a rooftop pool overflowed, sending water cascading down a hotel due to the tremors.

The tremors weren't just limited to Myanmar and Thailand. People in China's Yunnan province and parts of India also reported feeling the ground shake.

In Bangkok, many residents evacuated high-rise buildings as alarms blared. Right after the main quake, a 6.4-magnitude aftershock hit, adding to the panic.

Authorities in both Thailand and Myanmar are working around the clock to locate survivors and assess the damage. People have been advised to stay alert for more aftershocks.
