Body Of 18-Year-Old Boy Found Washed Ashore On Pulau Pangkor

IPOH: The body of a teenager who drowned while swimming in Teluk Batik, Lumut on Saturday, was found on Pulau Pangkor at 2.15pm Monday. "The victim's body was identified by family members and sent to the Seri Manjung Hospital.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Jaafar Baba said the body of D. Stevan Dass was found at Batu Ular by locals, who alerted the police at 2.15pm.

Seri Manjung fire station chief Ismail Othman said the deceased, 18, was playing with a float with his younger brother R. Jeremy, 16, and their friend Leong Kah Siong at the time of the 4.30pm incident on Saturday.

"The sea was very rough and the waves pulled them further out to sea. "Family members tried to rescue them, but only managed to pull Jeremy and Leong to safety," he said, adding that the Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene 10 minutes later after receiving a distress call at 5.23pm.

He added that search and rescue efforts had to be put off due to rough seas.

Jeremy is believed to be in critical condition and is being warded at the Manjung Hospital intensive care unit while Leong, 22, escaped unhurt.

"The cause of death was confirmed to be drowning," said he said.
