BERSIH 5 This Saturday: Routes, Meeting Points And Everything You Need To Know

Bersih 5 is being organised as a response to the 1MDB scandals and here are the coalition's five institutional demands:

a) Clean Election
b) Clean Government
c) Strengthening of Parliamentary Democracy
d) Right to Dissent
e) Empowering Sabah and Sarawak

The Bersih 2.0 coalition confirmed that their rally will go on from 10am till 6pm on Saturday, 19 November.

In a press statement that was released on 1 November, Bersih 2.0 named two main meeting points for the rally this Saturday:

i) Dataran Maybank 1, Jalan Maarof, Taman Bangsar, 59000 Kuala Lumpur, WP Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (Bank Rakyat-Bangsar LRT Station)

ii) Masjid Negara, Jalan Perdana, Tasik Perdana, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The group will then proceed to walk peacefully to Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Raja, City Centre, 50050 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Typically most rally goers would wear the signature yellow Bersih t-shirts that you can buy through their official site here.

There were four designs available initially but as of now, there is only one that in still in stock:

The t-shirt costs RM18 each.

Alternatively, you can head to the Bersih HQ at B-G-15 , Blok B, 8 Avenue, Jalan Sungai Jernih 8/1, Seksyen 8, 46050 Petaling Jaya, Selangor to buy the t-shirts.

They will be open from 11am till 6pm.

If you plan to go for the rally, be dressed in comfortable clothes that allow ease of movement - shorts, t-shirts, sweat pants, running shoes.

Avoid wearing jewellery or bringing any unnecessary valuables along. Also, bring a change of clothes in preparation for any untoward situation.

Put on your glasses instead of contact lens as it is a lot easier to handle if you get caught in a tear gas situation.

As the chances of the most of roads in KL being blocked on 19 November is pretty high, it would be advisable to avoid driving to the meeting points.

Leave your car at home, hitch a cab to the nearest train station to get to any of the meeting points.

According to the Rakyat Post's Facebook page, a traffic news alert has been issued by the authorities warning members of the public to avoid wearing any yellow or red clothing on Saturday, 19 November, the same day as the Bersih 5 rally.

It was also mentioned that people should avoid being in the vicinity of the gathering points named by Bersih - Dataran Maybank and Masjid Negara on that day.

Responding to that, IGP Khalid said to The Star that these messages are untrue and that the authorities have not issued anything on road closures yet.

It said that in conjunction with the planned Bersih 5 and red shirts rally, these roads will be closed from 5am till 6pm on 19 November:
