Earlier today, 17 October, the management of SOGO Kuala Lumpur issued a statement that a staff of All IT Hypermarket, located on the 7th floor of the shopping mall, has tested positive for COVID-19

The staff tested positive on Friday, 16 October, according to the statement that was posted at about 4pm Saturday, stating that the infected staff had not been to work since Monday, 12 October.

"In light of this development, mitigating steps and public safety measures have been swiftly activated to limit any potential risk," the management said, adding that they are working closely with the relevant parties to undertake all necessary actions to prevent any potential risks.

No details were provided about the infected staff's travel history, if any.

It said that the All IT Hypermarket shop will remain close until further notice while the 7th floor will be reopened on Sunday, 18 October

"The 7th floor will be reopened to the public from 18 October, except All IT Hypermarket, which will be closed until further notice," the statement said, adding that the floor has been sanitised and disinfected.

A contact tracing of the store's staff was conducted through the QR code entry scan.

"All co-workers of the affected staff have been sent for the test and placed under strict quarantine," the statement said, noting that all other floors of SOGO Kuala Lumpur will remain open as usual.

In a follow-up statement, the management said that the infected staff was classified as an isolated case by Ministry of Health (MOH)

The follow-up statement was posted at 8pm tonight.

"We have closed our 7th floor as an additional precautionary measure initiative which is over and above the advice from MOH. We have also taken immediate action to disinfect and sanitise our premises," it said.

Separately, the All IT Hypermarket also issued a statement about the outlet being temporarily closed to mitigate the risk of infection

"We have done a thorough cleansing and sanitisation exercise in accordance with the procedures issued by MoH. Our SOGO KL outlet staff will undergo COVID-19 testing as well as 14 days self-quarantine," it said.
