Penang Amanah politician Muhammad Faiz Fadzil is being investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting a 31-year-old woman while they were on their way to Sunway Pyramid earlier this month

The victim lodged a police report on 16 March at Bandar Sunway, alleging that the accused molested her on 8 March when she had gone shopping with him and later in his car when they were going for dinner.

According to the woman, who is said to be a committee member of Terengganu PKR Youth, the Permatang Pasir assemblyperson asked her to meet to talk about current political issues with her.

"The meeting was the second time after we met on 10 January this year, which was at KLIA. The second time we met because he wanted to discuss current political issues with me as I am also active in my party. He also wanted to buy a birthday gift as it was my birthday. As he was a politician, I agreed and was honoured to meet him," she said in her report, a copy of which was emailed to SAYS on Tuesday, 23 March.

She alleged that when they were walking together, the accused allegedly tried to hold her hand.

"At first, I tried to think good thoughts about him, until he took me to a restaurant for dinner. On the way, he fondled, hugged, and did undesirable things, making the journey to the restaurant feel long."

In her police report, the victim also alleged that the Amanah assemblyperson told her to keep silent about the incident

"Although he knew that I was not happy with the situation, he still continued. He also reminded me to not tell anyone about it," she wrote in the police report.

Following the woman's report, the police called Muhammad Faiz to facilitate the investigation and take his statement on 18 March

In a statement yesterday, 23 March, the Permatang Pasir assemblyman said that he is giving his full cooperation to the police and will continue to cooperate with authorities to clear his name.

"I deny the allegations. I cannot provide details of my defence as this is an ongoing investigation. I am also discussing with my legal team about the appropriate legal action that I can take in order to clear my name," he said in the statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code.
