29-Year-Old Driver Of An E-Hailing Service Allegedly Molested A Student In The Backseat

He was arrested after the girl lodged a report with Batu Gajah police.

A 29-year-old driver of an e-hailing service was arrested for allegedly molesting a 20-year-old private university student at a vacant shoplot area in Taman Tronoh Universiti, Perak

According to a report in NST Online, police arrested the ride-hailing driver in Lumut after the student lodged a police report.

"We arrested the man in Lumut to assist the investigation. His car was also seized," Batu Gajah police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said.

ACP Ahmad Adnan Basri said the incident, which happened around 6.45pm on Tuesday, 9 April, occurred when the driver was on his way to send the girl at her hostel in Batu Gajah Perdana, Pusing

"The student, who is currently undergoing an internship in Pangkor Island, has booked the service through her mobile application as she will be off tomorrow.

"The student then got into the Proton Saga BLM car which was driven by the man before he stopped at an empty shoplot in Taman Tronoh Universiti.

The man then went out of his car and sat with the student at the backseat.

"He then forced the student to touch his private parts. The victim, who refused to do so, then pushed the man away," the ACP was quoted as saying by NST Online.

The driver then went back to his seat and continued the journey to drop the victim.

After the driver dropped the student to her hostel, he warned her not to tell anyone about the incident, including the police

Police are currently investigating the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty.
