9 Students Who Beat Up Their Classmate In Viral 'Happy Birthday' Video Have Been Arrested

A group of Form Five school students from a Shah Alam school were seen beating up a classmate as part of a birthday "tradition" in a video that has gone viral recently
According to Asia One, the incident allegedly occurred on 8 February at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Jelutong.
The 29-second video depicts about eight students, including one prefect, singing 'Happy birthday' to the boy before kicking, punching and hitting him with broomsticks
This is apparently a common birthday ritual at the school, as is throwing flour on those celebrating their birthdays, Bernama reported.
According to theSun, Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said such an incident should not happen for whatever reason or purpose.
The victim lodged a police report on Sunday, April 15.
Selangor CID confirmed on Monday, 16 April, that nine students have been arrested that day.
However, all the 17-year-olds have been released on police bail, Asia One reported.
"They were picked up around 11.30am on Monday before being released at 4.45pm," he said.
The police are investigating the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code
The section provides that, "Any person who attends, takes part in or is found at any riot and who has in his possession at such riot any firearm, ammunition, explosive, corrosive, injurious or obnoxious substance, stick, stone or any weapon or missile capable of use as a weapon of offence shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years or with fine or with both."
