7-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Thrown Onto Another Car's Windscreen In Maran Crash

A 7-year-old girl was killed in a tragic crash on the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) after being thrown from her family's vehicle and landing on another car's windscreen yesterday, 7 April

The incident took place around 1.40pm at KM147 of the expressway.

The victim, Nurul Lara Maisarah Mohd Hafiz, died at the scene from the impact.

Her 31-year-old mother, who was driving the car, and her 39-year-old father, seated in the front passenger seat, were not injured. Her 9-year-old sister, also in the car, sustained minor injuries.

According to Maran police chief Supt Wong Kim Wai, initial findings indicate that the Honda Civic they were in was heading from Kuala Lumpur to Pekan when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to heavy rain.

The family's car is believed to have crashed into the metal railing on the right side of the expressway

"Nurul Lara, who was seated behind her mother, was thrown out of the vehicle by the impact and landed on the front windscreen of a Myvi travelling in the opposite lane," he said in a statement.

The 57-year-old Myvi driver, his 54-year-old wife, and their 11-year-old son all sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh.

Police said they will record statements from both drivers.

The case is being investigated for causing death by negligent driving.
