He has been detained by police for driving without a licence.
A 16-year-old driver crashed his Proton Saga into four other vehicles near Kuching Airport Road yesterday, 14 January, resulting in five deaths and multiple injuries
The fatal crash occurred at around 12.50pm when the teenager lost control of his vehicle while travelling from Jalan Lapangan Terbang towards Jalan Setia Raja, reported the New Straits Times.
Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the Proton Saga veered into the opposite lane and collided with four other vehicles — another Proton Saga, a Toyota Altis, and two motorcycles.
Four victims, aged 16 to 45, including a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim, a motorcyclist, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (HUS).
Meanwhile, the teenage driver of the Proton Saga survived but sustained neck injuries, and is currently receiving treatment at HUS. He has been detained by police for driving without a licence.
He will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving
The teen could face a prison sentence of five to 10 years, a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000, and a driving ban of at least three years, if convicted.
