Pistachio, mint chocolate chip, and pandan are probably what come to mind when you're asked to name green ice cream flavours.

But what if we told you, there's a new and probably the least-expected green flavour defying the laws of ice cream sweetness?

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing our newest contender in the green ice cream category: petai or stink bean ice cream.

And the best part? It's actually quite easy to make yourself.

TikTok user @zamaiskrim, known for her tutorials on how to make homemade ice cream using simple ingredients, posted a video on 5 February on how to make this unusually-flavoured confection. The video has garnered 975,000 views and 50,000 likes since being published.

Her step-by-step instructions involve a mixture of water, corn starch, milk, sugar, Ovallete (a baking stabiliser), green food colouring, and of course, 10 pieces of petai. The concoction was left to rest in the freezer for five hours before she scooped it onto a wafer cone.

It's as simple as that!

"I love petai, but maybe not petai ice cream" — Malaysians shared mixed feelings in the comment section of the tutorial

Many viewers shared sentiments of disgust and intrigue toward the video, some expressing that they were curious as to how the ice cream would actually taste. Even fans of petai had their reservations toward the ice cream.

One user thought she was joking with the title.

"I thought she was just joking about putting petai in, then she actually put 10 pieces in [the mixture]," the user wrote.

Some users jokingly suggested that she make more savoury ice cream flavours, ranging from belacan to the Kelantanese anchovy sauce budu, the fermented durian condiment tempoyak, and even soy sauce.

One user suggested, "Make asam pedas ice cream tomorrow."

Some requested shrimp sambal- and stingray- flavoured ice cream.

One user asked for anchovy ice cream.

A curious commenter asked if the petai ice cream can be pickled.

Would you ever try petai ice cream? Or have you had weirder flavours before? Let us know!
